What we do
We push the water out of your sprinkler lines before it can freeze.
A tow-behind compressor sends air through your system one zone at a time until every pipe, valve and head is dry. It's the one job your sprinklers need every fall.
- 01
Every zone, cleared.
We run air through each zone until the heads only put out mist, not water.
- 02
Backflow set for winter.
The valves by your foundation get left half-open so any leftover water has room.
- 03
Street by street.
We book whole blocks at once. That's how we keep our prices low.
minutes at your house. We shut off the water, clear every zone and set the backflow.
Bigger systems can take a little longer. Why it matters
Shutting it off isn't enough.
Turning off the water stops new water coming in. The water already in the lines stays there all winter, and water grows about 9% when it freezes.
The backflow cracks.
The brass valve by your foundation holds water and has no insulation. A hard freeze can split the body.
Lines split underground.
Low spots hold water. A split pipe can mean digging up the yard and replacing sprinkler lines.
Heads and valves fail.
Ice cracks the plastic in spray heads and zone valves. Cheap one at a time, spendy across a whole yard.
If you skip it
SpendyFreeze repairs add up fast, and can mean replacing sprinkler lines, the backflow, or both.

A review takes about a minute. It's the most useful thing you can do for a small family business, and it's how the next family on your street decides whether to trust us with their yard.

About us
A small family business: a dad and his two sons.
It started with our own lawn in Berris Ridge and a rented compressor. The neighbors asked, then their neighbors did. Now we take four days off every October and do it right.
You Nied us every fall.
Get on the list before the ground freezes.
Reserve in a minute. You pay when we arrive.

Before you ask.
Does someone have to be home?
Yes. The main shutoff is almost always inside, and we need to get to it. You'll also pay when we arrive. If being home is hard, say so in the notes and we'll work something out.
What should I do before you come?
Know where your main shutoff is, unlock side gates, keep pets inside, and leave room at the curb for the compressor trailer. Tell us about any known leaks or broken heads.
What if I miss my window?
Text us and we'll fit you back in the same day if we can. With four days and one compressor we can't promise a second trip.
Can I pick my own time?
Tell us what works and we'll try, but we run a whole street at a time. Jumping between blocks is what would push the price up.
What if something's wrong afterward?
Text us. If a zone still spits water, we'll come back and clear it again at no charge. We don't do repairs, but we're happy to point you to someone who does.
Service terms
Last updated October 7, 2026
These terms apply to every blowout by Nied & Sons Sprinkler Winterization, a small family business run by members of the Niederer family ("we," "us"). By booking, or by paying for a blowout, you ("you," the homeowner or the person who booked) agree to them.
1. What we do
We shut off the irrigation water supply, use compressed air to push water out of your sprinkler zones, set the backflow valves for winter, and turn off the controller. That's the whole service. We do not repair, inspect, certify, or test any part of your system, including the backflow preventer, and we don't guarantee the system is free of defects.
2. Your system's condition
Sprinkler systems age. Old, worn, cracked, poorly installed, or previously damaged parts (pipe, fittings, heads, valves, backflow preventers, controllers) can fail during a normal blowout or later. You agree we're not responsible for failures caused by the condition of your system, and you'll tell us about any leaks, broken parts, or problems you know about before we start.
3. Your responsibilities
Someone 18 or older lets us in to reach the main shutoff. You keep pets and children away from the equipment and hoses, give us clear access to the backflow and yard, and don't turn the water back on until spring. If the water is turned back on, or the system is used after our visit, any freeze protection from our service ends.
4. Release and limit of liability
To the fullest extent Minnesota law allows, you release us from, and agree not to hold us responsible for, any damage to your irrigation system, home, or property that happens during or after the blowout, including damage caused by our own ordinary negligence. This release does not cover damage caused by our gross negligence or by willful or intentional misconduct.
If we are found responsible for anything, our total liability for all claims related to a blowout is limited to the amount you paid us for that blowout. We aren't responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as landscaping, lawn, or water damage that shows up later.
5. If a zone isn't clear
If a zone still spits water after our visit, text us before the end of the season and we'll come back and blow it out again at no charge. A second blowout, or a refund of what you paid, is your only remedy.
6. Payment and cancellations
Payment is due when we arrive, before we start, by cash, card, or Venmo. We collect first so we know we can get inside to shut off the water and reach every sprinkler zone. Prices are listed on this page. You can cancel any time by texting us; there's no fee. We may cancel or reschedule because of weather, equipment problems, or safety, and we'll text you if we do.
7. The rest
These terms are the full agreement for the service and are governed by Minnesota law. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Privacy
We collect your name, phone number, address, and anything you tell us about your yard. We use it to schedule your blowout, text you about it, collect payment, and let you know when next season opens. Booking details are kept in a private spreadsheet only our family can see. We don't sell or share it with anyone. Card and Venmo payments are handled by Venmo under its own policy. This page doesn't use tracking cookies or ads. Text or email us any time to have your information deleted.
